Banana Upside Down Cake. Prepare cake mix according to package directions; pour over bananas. Prepare cake mix according to package instructions.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add the brown sugar and salt and cook until melted, stirring occasionally. Combine the topping ingredients in bowl.
Sprinkle pecans evenly over both brown sugar mixtures, arrange banana slices evenly over each.
Mix mashed bananas, buttermilk and vanilla in another small bowl.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk mixture, mixing until just combined. Make the topping: Heat the butter, salt, brown sugar, and vanilla in a skillet on the stovetop. Add the brown sugar and salt and cook until melted, stirring occasionally.
